Hi and welcome to my blog.

Who am I?

I’m Dani, the 40 something high maintenance wife to a (mostly) patient man and stay-at-home mum to 3 gorgeous boys. We live in Sydney, Australia.

In my previous life I worked in the airline industry and gained qualifications in massage therapy.  I am also a Certified Infant Massage Instructor.  All of this was put aside to raise my family and I don’t regret a moment.  I have many interests of which cooking and photography feature prominently but I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up!

Why this blog?

I want to pay homage to my family’s food roots and catalogue family recipes.  In addition I want to challenge myself to cook new things, cook from the hundreds of cookbooks I’ve collected and show that food for kids can be grown-up.

My family comes from the Aeolian Islands off Sicily where capers are an important industry.  My mum’s father was a pastry cook and my grandmothers were both excellent home cooks.  I grew up in a family where food was (and is) an important part of everyday life. I learned to cook from my mum and grandmothers, for whom cooking has always been an act of love.

Food in our family is an affair of the heart and I hope to share that passion with you.

  1. Count the seconds til you post your Nonna’s biscuit recipe… In my memory they were heavenly…light, pale golden, with a light crisp outer and a crumbly almost cakey centre. And her basic tomato pasta sauce that was unlike any other I have tried and which i can still smell vividly. No pressure Dani ;). X

  2. Hi Daniela, we are out to dinner with your mum and reading your blog from your mum’s phone. We were really touched by your motivation to start it and we can really relate to it as we also learnt from our mums and grandmums! Keep it up !!!
    And if its any consolation we don’t know what we want to be when we grow up either!!!!
